Credit River Anglers Association (CRAA)

Who are we?

We're a group of concerned anglers and conservationists that are united in the common goal of improving the fishery that exists in the Credit River. We're a realized dream of a bunch of hard working people that care about our environment and improved angling opportunities. As we enter our tenth year we have had some major successes, but there is still much for us to do. Unite with CRAA to improve YOUR fishing opportunities today!

What are we doing?

CRAA is actively working to fulfill our mandate to improve fishing in the Credit River. We work with all levels of government, the MNR, CVC, DFO, OFAH, other NGO's and residents to achieve our goals. Here's what we're doing right now!

Why you need to be a member:

"The Credit River Anglers made fishing the lower Credit River in Mississauga possible", Mayor Hazel McCallion.

CRAA was formed in 1990 to Keep Erindale Park open to fishing when city forces wanted to close the river due to poaching and snagging.  Through education (both anglers and the public), CRAA has kept Erindale open and now through hundreds of behind the scene hours brought forth new open sections from Highway 403 downstream to Lake Ontario!

You need to get involved!  CRAA is 100% volunteer.  Without volunteers who love to fish the Credit River fishery would be lost.

Volunteers work to lift and transfer fish over dams, educate the public, stock fish, conduct research, complete rehabilitation, improve habitat and improve our fishing!

If you want better fishing and more fish you need to get involved now.

Membership is only $10 a year!

or $100 for a lifetime of support!

Sign up for the CRAA volunteer mailing list and stay tuned to the CRAA chat board for updates on how you can make your fishing better!

CRAA's Major Accomplishments:

  • Raised over four million dollars in rehab and fishery work
  • Brought together thousands of CRAA members
  • Created a wild steelhead fishery on the Credit River!
  • Developing a wild migratory brown trout fishery
  • Lead partner on restoring Atlantic salmon
  • Spearheaded no kill zones for resident brown, brook and rainbow trout
  • More rehabilitation and fishery work than all other NGO's combined on watershed!
  • Stocked millions of fish over the past 20 years
  • Lifted and transferred thousands of fish past dams to spawning grounds
  • Educated thousands of anglers and residents
  • Leading NGO for endangered and threatened species protection and rehabilitation such as Atlantic salmon, Lake Sturgeon, American eel and redside dace.

How have we done?

Check out CRAA's before and after Rehabilitation link:

The graphs and pictures tell it all! Wild steelhead production is WAY UP as a direct result of CRAA's work. Our best electro-fishing site had an increase of 3000 % in juvenile steelhead. It won't be long until the Credit becomes the place to fish.

How can YOU get involved!

Simple. Join CRAA by filling out the membership application and mail it in with a cheque or sign up at the Spring Fishing Show. A new membership is $10.00 (1 year) which entitles you to all the membership benefits including newsletters, opportunities to handle all the fish you want at the fish ladder, help in egg collection, raising the little guys and all our events. As a bonus CRAA members also receive a discount on selected merchandise at Angling Specialties in Mississauga. We are also offering a special 3 year membership for $30.00 and a lifetime membership is only $100.00!

Why get involved?

If you care about being able to catch both quality and a quantity of fish in the Credit River you must get involved. We need YOU to make a difference. Only by joining forces can we ensure that the Credit River becomes the fishery it can be. Don't settle for second best, the Credit has all the potential, it just needs YOU to help. YOUR involvement can ensure that the Credit River does not become the lost river! If CRAA was not working so hard the Credit River would not be a great place to fish now. Firstly, Erindale Park would be closed to fishing (like the lower Credit River). The park has remained open because CRAA volunteers have worked hard to educate anglers and clean up the river. Secondly, steelhead stocking has been cut by 80% since 1989 in the Credit River. Without CRAA's tens of thousands of hours of work at the fish ladder, transfers, tree planting, government lobbying for anglers, public education, lower limits, more open water, the hatchery ans so much more the runs of salmon and steelhad would be lost and fishing would be closed!  DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN.

Get involved and make a difference.
Support CRAA anyway you can!
